Maria Almenara and Timothy Peter Morris, both students from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ​​have presented their respective doctoral theses this week at the Institut Guttmann. Maria Almenara presented her doctoral thesis "Theoretical-practical model for the implementation of user-centered design, development, validation and acceptance of support products for people with diseases of neurological origin". His field work has been carried out for three years at the Research Office and at the Functional Rehabilitation Area of ​​the Institut Guttmann.

She had Dr. Josep Medina, head of the Functional Rehabilitation Area of ​​the Institut Guttmann and Dr. Esther Duarte, from the Hospital de la Esperanza, as thesis directors. The court highlighted the practical approach of the thesis that will allow the application of a system of assessment for electromechanical devices and support products in patients.

On Thursday, in the auditorium of theInstitut Guttmann, Tim Morris presented his doctoral thesis entitled "Physical Exercise and Cognition: Mechanisms of Action and Evaluation of Potential Therapeutic Value in Traumatic Brain Injury" in which he has explored the therapeutic use of physical exercise in the recovery of cognitive dysfunction after cranioencephalic trauma and how it has beneficial effects on the cognitive function and on the perception of general health. Dr. Josep Maria Tormos, director of Research at the Institut Guttmann, Dr. David Costa Miserachs of the University of Barcelona and Dr. Alvaro Pascual-Leone from Harvard University have been the thesis directors.
