On Thursday, 9 April at Institut Guttmann, we were treated to an entertaining game of korfball between some of the hospital's patients and elite athletes Gerard Piqué and Àlex Corretja. The activity was held within the framework of the signing of the cooperation agreement between Fundación Laureus, Mercedes-Benz and Institut Guttmann for the “Outdoor Sport” project, which aims to carry out sporting activities in the natural environment and take patients undergoing rehabilitation on regular trips outside the hospital setting for activities such as skiing, sailing, diving and handcycling, and always within their rehabilitation programme.

While this project has already been carried out at the hospital for some time, on this occasion two great ambassadors in the form of Pique and Corretja who, on behalf of Fundación Laureus, chaired by Gabriel Masfurroll, attended and showed their support for the programme and highlighted the benefits of physical exercise not only as part of a rehabilitation process as a result of a neurological injury, but also as a tool for socialising and inclusion.

It was certainly a fun and happy day, as both patients and guests were able to enjoy a competitive game of korfball. After the match, both Gerard and Àlex praised both the physical fitness of the Guttmann patients, pointing out that playing korfball in a wheelchair is much more complicated than they thought and it seems.
