Episode 9 - Music therapy and neurorehabilitation

Music therapy is the use of music and its elements -rhythm, melody, harmony, etc.- for therapeutic purposes. It can be used to work on cognitive, motor, emotional and social aspects in numerous specialities. These include neurological patients, such as those treated at the Institut Guttmann... In this episode, we will find out how this discipline was born, what Neurologic Music Therapy consists of, what differences exist in adult and children therapy and how it works in combination with other disciplines, such as speech therapy. We will also discover the story of Jose, a boy who was admitted to the Institut Guttmann in a state of minimal consciousness, and Miguel, who has quadriplegia as a result of an accident he suffered 12 years ago and cannot speak, but can use music in his rehabilitation process.
