Episode 8 - Depression in neurological patients

It is estimated that 5% of the world's population has suffered from depression in the last 12 months, and that 20-25% will have a depressive episode at some point in their lives. Depression is not synonymous with sadness. Depression is an illness with a wide range of symptoms, which may include loss of enthusiasm and enjoyment, sleep and appetite disturbances, feelings of low energy, distorted and negative thoughts, among many others. In this episode we talk about the evolution of the illness, the stigma associated with it, risk factors, existing treatments and therapeutic alternatives in cases of resistant depression. And we meet Noelia and Juana, two people with a neurological disorder who have also received treatment for depression at the Institut Guttmann.
