RDI Centre

The Institut Guttmann is accredited as a University Institute attached to the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), as stated in the Official Journal of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia), Decree 230/2001 of 28 August 2001.

As a University Institute, its mission is to develop academic, scientific and research issues in neuroscience in general and in neurorehabilitation and technologies applied to personal autonomy in particular.

Knowledge centre

The overlap between the Specialist Hospital -Centre of Excellence- and the University Institute of Neurorehabilitation -Knowledge Centre- enables optimisation of the generation and transfer of new knowledge in this specialised field of science.

Its vision is to be an international leader in neurorehabilitation, able to generate and transmit new knowledge and continuous innovation in techniques, procedures and technologies appropriate to its field of scientific knowledge and to neuroscience in general. This is done by promoting a network of cooperation open the participation of other centres of excellence, universities, research institutes, companies and organisations, both national and international, who want to combine their efforts in order to improve prevention and results in the treatment of diseases that affect the central nervous system.

Translational Research Model

The clinical and translational research potential of Institut Guttmann is based, on the one hand, on the concentration of a sufficient number of cases to allow maintenance and development of skilled professionals at the same time as guaranteeing the safety, quality and efficiency of the care. The research model is based on the systematic exercise of rigorous and ethical work, based on scientific evidence and following the scientific method.

Translational research aims to develop sustainable solutions to health problems, moving the results of basic research into clinical practice as quickly as possible.

The synergy between the Centre of Excellence and the Knowledge Center

At the Institut Guttmann, the systematic care act itself becomes an exercise in continuous clinical research, which promotes the generation of new knowledge while driving continuous improvement in the quality of the healthcare services offered by the hospital. It also allows the promotion of specialised professional training related to the field of neurorehabilitation and the technology applied to disability, while enabling the development of knowledge of the techniques and experiences that support the health and quality of life of those affected by a major acquired neurological disability.
