Wednesday, 13 June, 2018
One more year, the Institut Guttmann has organized with the collaboration of the Servei Català de Trànsit, the VII Meeting of road education with monitors of the Game Over program and also with police educators in road safety. This year the meeting focused on the distractions, with the title 'Distractions, an unperceived risk?'. and structured in talks, a round table and a debate with the participation of young students.

The new director of the Servei Català de Trànsit, Mr. Juli Gendrau, accompanied by the director of the Institut Guttmann, Dr. Josep M. Ramírez, he opened the meeting and thanked the awareness-raising work carried out by the monitors of the Game Over program in educational centers . The day also served to assess and highlight the impact of the talks: more than 90% of students who have participated in the talks of the Game Over program remember the personal experience of the monitors and they also clearly remembers the causes of the accident suffered by the monitor and its consequences. Many of them recognize that talks have a positive influence on the prevention.

The conference of Jaume Funes, psychologist, educator and journalist expert in youth, spoke about  the fact that "the adolescent is dedicated to being a teenager, and we can not wait for them to act with the experience and the expertise that adults have". Funes added that "what we can do is help them and give them the keys to be minimally responsible" During the round table, with the participation of students, professors and members of the security forces, they wanted to denounce that the mobile phone is a great distraction and that there is no real perception of the risk involved.

During the year 2017, 48,000 students participed in the Game Over program. Right now there are 27 active monitors that participate in the project and that have availability. These data show the consolidation of this program as a tool to prevent traffic accidents and road risk behavior among young people in Catalonia.
