Institut Guttmann has held this Friday 27th November in the Oval Room at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), the institutional ceremony of the 50th anniversary celebration, coinciding with the opening of the old hospital, in the neighborhood of La Sagrera, in 1965.
On Thursday 19th November took place in Texas Cinemas in Barcelona the successful preview of the film The Best of Men, a biopic realized by the BBC about Dr. Guttmann and all that he did to change the paradigm of spinal cord injury.
This year the Technical Conferences, opened by Ms. Neus Munté, vice-chair of the Government of Catalonia and Dr. Josep M. Ramírez, managing director of the Institut Guttmann, have received exceptionally the most important congresses of specialists in spinal cord injury; the XXII National Conferences of the Spanish Society of Paraplegia (SEP) and the XXI Symposium of the Spanish Association of Skilled Nursing in the Injured Spinal Cord (ASELME).
The Institut Guttmann has obtained the first EMAS Certification (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme o Reglamento Comunitario de Ecogestión y Ecoauditoría), a voluntary regulation that recognises organizations with an Environmental Management System and with a commitment to continual improvement.
The acreditation is result of the audit of 2nd and 3rd June and an example of the Institut Guttmann proactive attitude in protecting the environment, recognised also with the ISO 14001:2004 Certification, recently renovated.
The Institut Guttmann organizes from 28th to 30th October the XXVII edition of Institut Guttmann Technical Symposia, this year in a very special occasion because of the 50th anniversary of the hospital. The event will meet the XXVI National Conferences of the Spanish Society of Paraplegia (SEP), the XXI Symposium of the Spanish Association of Special Nursing in the Injured Spinal (ASELME), the first Conferences on Technology and Functional Rehabilitation and also a Debate of Social Innovation and Disability.
The Institut Guttmann XI Sport Games finished today, after a special edition because of the 50th anniversary of the Institution, and with the objective of promoting and show to patients and ex patients the diversity of Paralympics sports, as always.
Yesterday, 5th October, the Institut Guttmann gathered more than 350 people in ONCE’s Auditorium in Barcelona, to discover how to guide the brain throughout live. With the title “Promoting brain health” and with the speaker Alvaro Pascual-Leone, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, Associate Dean of Translational Research and scientific advisor to the Institut Guttmann.
The Institut Guttmann, according to its scientific work and its social commitment, is organizing a free and open lecture on the importance of brain health.
"How to guide the brain changes throughout life: PROMOTING BRAIN HEALTH" by Alvaro Pascual-Leone, Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean of Translational Research at Harvard University and scientific advisor of the Institut Guttmann, will held on Monday 5 October at 19.00 in the Auditorium ONCE (Gran Vía, 400 Barcelona).
This Sunday September 20th the Institut Guttmann took part in the great festival of fitness, organized by the Barcelona Sports Institute (IBE), that on the occasion of the Festes de la Mercè took place in the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina of Barcelona.
Under the name of Fitness Day, the fitness session on the street that has the main objective of promoting the sport among citizens, and it wanted to be, once again, inclusive, and demonstrate that people with disabilities can also participate in the sport.
