Institut Guttmann’s Social Advisory Council organis a body representing the main associations of people with physical disabilities in Catalonia, related agencies, community experts and members of Institut Guttmann’s Board of Directors and a representative from its works council.
This initiative, which is groundbreaking in Spanish health care, intends to strengthen the institution’s community commitment. Moreover, it aims to become more accountable for democratic procedures. These will be under the control of, more participated by and jointly incumbent on all the players serving the institute´s purposes. The aim is to involve, in particular, people with severe neurological disabilities, who are the main recipients of the institute’s services and its rationale.
The Council’s tasks include:

Collaborating to detect and define the needs of Institut Guttmann’s users and those of their families both individually and as a group. |

Receiving information and giving opinions on the annual report of activities, the financial balance and the corporate balance sheet. |
|
• |
Being familiar with and giving opinions about the tools used to assess the quality of Institut Gutmann’s services, users’ satisfaction with services and any complaints made and their solutions. |

• |
Giving opinions about the main future projects and strategies and any other proposal or decision submitted by Institut Guttmann for consideration. |
|
• |
Discussing and drawing up proposals for improving Institut Guttmann’s strategies and tasks as well as any other initiative for the benefit of disabled people and their rights. |
