| THE INSTITUT GUTTMANN FOUNDATION |

It is a private social, non-denominational, non-profit making entity that comes from the charitable commitment of Catalan society, faithful to human principles and a holistic concept of people. It is governed by the founding will expressed in its Statutes, which is safeguarded by the Foundation’s Trust and supervised by the Protectorat de Fundacions de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Foundation Protectorate of the Catalan autonomous government).

“The main aim of the INSTITUT GUTTMANN FOUNDATION, a private foundation, non-profit making entity, is the promotion, advancement and attainment of the comprehensive rehabilitation of people with spinal injury, brain damage or any other severe physical neurological disorder. It also aims to give them the most suitable support and services to achieve a satisfying reinsertion into society and to efficiently contribute to the full recognition of their rights and equal opportunities.

The Foundation was created in 1982 by Mr. Guillermo González Gilbey, Mr. Juan Antonio Andreu Bufill and Mr. Luis Gil de Biedma Alba. On 25th April 2002 the Foundation’s Trust agreed a partial split of the Institut Guttmann Foundation in favour of the “Guttmann Neurorehabilitation Institute Private Foundation"; the split was made official through a public deed on 28th November 2002, which transferred activities relating to the hospitalisation of chronic patients and university activities.
