As new information technologies are growing more important every day and they also offer a lot of advantages for a better social integration of people with functional disabilities, in 2006 we started the Institute Guttmann Computer and Pre-work Initiation Classroom with the aim of offering our patients, as a part of their rehabilitation process, digital alphabetization, introduction to computer and internet surfing as well as the practice in the use of needed technical aids, adapted to each user, for the best digital accessibility possible.

At the same time, this initiative aims to offer ex patients and other people with severe acquired disability, the opportunity of receiving an occupational education and work and professional insertion programs that, in an accessible and adapted to their needs and functional possibilities way, grows the competence and competitivity of each one of them in order of making easier their access to employment market as well as favoring the equality of opportunities and an active, independent and more satisfactory social integration

To get its first objective, the Computer and Pre-work Initiation Classroom is equipped with some fix and portable computers and interface adapted to the diverse needs of our patients so they can get used to new technologies, learn how to use technical aids to work with computer and also receive lessons on computers. This project is fruit of the collaboration with Fundación ONCE and IMSERSO, having also count with the support of Fundación INTEGRALIA, the firm ACER and the Swiss firm CLARIANT through Fundación ADECCO.

To get its second objective, this is to facilitate the access to work and professional world to people with severe functional disability, Institute Guttmann has established cooperation agreements with different entities specializing in this activity (Fundación ONCE, Fundació Manpower, the Job Advisory Team of the Municipal Institute of People with Disabilities of the Barcelona City Council...) who, with a vast experience in the social and work insertion of people with disability and other collectives at risk of social exclusion, have an wide range of specific occupational and insertion formation programs adapted to the actual needs of this collective and to the requirements of employment market, so they can follow adequate formation and work insertion paths personalized and adapted to the possibilities of people with disabilities.
