Neuroscience and Neuronal Plasticity

Head of program: Dra. Hatice Kumru

Researchers: Dr. Joan Vidal, Dra. Narda Murillo, Sr. Sergiu Albu, Dra. Rosa Terrè, Dr. Jesús Benito, Dr. Daniel León, Sr. Ignasi Soriano

Vision

Better understanding of the plastic changes occurring at different levels of the central and peripheral nervous system after brain damage and / or spinal cord injury with the aim of developing and applying new treatments and / or interventions to promote / modulate these changes

Program Goals

  1. To study the plastic changes (adaptive or maladaptive) and their evolution after a neurological injury.
  2. To determine the modulation or normalization of this plasticity or metaplasticity by any other pharmacological intervention, physiotherapy, non-invasive stimulation ... in order to optimize the results of the intervention.
  3. To study neurophysiological alterations after a neurological injury: sleep disturbances, movement disorders, behavioral and learning disorders, epilepsy and developmental disorders.
  4. Research of neuromodulation specific neurophysiological mechanisms in healthy subjects.

Ongoing projects

  1. Efficacy of restriction-induced movement therapy in upper limb rehabilitation in stroke patients with subacute-stage.
